I recently got laid off and my previouse employers want to hire me back. both competitions of each other. I tell them that I want to do my own thing and they tell me don't reinvent the wheel and come back to them...these people are very successful.  are they just trying to stop my own sucess by working for them again...or do they have a point.  both want to talk new ventures with me...why couldn't I just do it on my own and make more money?

My honest opinion is that if you haven't fully planned for some time now to go on your own, including well thought-out business and marketing plans and at least a year's resources in reserve, the LAST thing you should be doing is going on your own.

Some people have succeeded in your position, by far the most have not.

Without an extensive plan, you are asking for major trouble and will waste a lot of resources creating a plan as you go, which is difficult to impossible.

I agree you need a business plan. The higher the risk the higher the reward. Does this sound good to you or like you?

They are not trying to stop you from being their competition. They want someone experience that knows thier company. They do not want to start at ground zero training a new sales person.

Thier offer make a counter offer for more. You were prepared to step out on your own  you never get what you do not ask for.If they bite your set if they do not bite  your still set  with the offer you made to yourself.

Traditionally when yoru starting out in business your trading dollars building your business. You are enver prepared for what  could happen.

Ultimately you have to decide what is best for you and your family. Can you survive growing pains? These pains will hurt  quite a bit during the slow economic times being an unknown commodity.

Go where your gut feelings tell you to go.  Only you can make that decision.  Me, I would most likely move on.  If your skills are a good as you seem to think they are look for employ with someone else.

Things only stay the same or get worse than you had it at work.

What was the reason for them letting you go in the first place?

Times have changed for the worse market wise.

Is it to get you off unemployment or for you refussing to take a viable job?
