There was a letter to the editor in our local newspaper on this very topic.  The writer said that he follows the following rules:  When he goes to take off from a stopped position, he would move slowly and not stamp on the gas for a quick start.  He would stay at 80 kilometers per hour and keep it consistent so as not to use more fuel, especially going up and down hills.  Keep your vehicle well looked after.  Get regular oil changes, whatever the manufacturer recommends, ie. every 5000 kilometers.  Check your spark plugs and air filter regularly and rotate your tires.  All these will suffice in better gas mileage.

Do what smile sez....

plan your appointments if possible by route sequentially and not just time. try to keep them in near by clusters.

Don't idle car more than 3 minutes, shut it off

get a more fuel efficient car

Don't know what you do, but maybe you don't need to be on road every day? telephone, email, videoconferencing, carrier pigeon. One day off road would save 20%.

Obrudder is correct on the planning the route.  Side trips are a killer.  You could look for better routes other than relying on the GPS.  Often they do not show short cuts, which entails maybe 20 miles more to your route.  By making appointments you can plan your route better rather than just "dropping in".  Yes, Obrudder you heard right.  I left the other stuff for you to comment on. lol

Get a GOS. I cvan set mine three different ways. Shortest route. quickest route.and expressay driving. Saves time and money.

Follow the speed limit and wave to the old people passing you by.An article in sales hq stated to make all right hand turns .I really do not know how true that is. Use good gas.
