Posted about 1 month ago I am interested in finding out people's take on Scooters/motorcycles as transportation. What I am interested in finding out is who Scoots to work or for recreation, how one got into Scooting, and how they over come the objections from friends, family, and clients/coworkers. For the otherside of the discussion, I am also looking for what the impressions are from the community at large on those who Scoot. Please include things like an impression of professionalism, creative thinking, frugality/economical, general stereo typing, and other impressions. The concept behind this topic is I am looking to move away from a car based lifestyle. I want to know what some of the objections are as well as what some of the benefits are. Finally, is there a difference between the impressions for those who Scoot verses those who ride Motorcycles? |

| Posted about 1 month ago You know I think that riding a scooter to work is a wonderful idea from a ecological standpoint unfortunately in my area there is so much congestion that I think it is impractical. I find motorcylists and scooters darting in and out of traffic. I would love for there to be a way to coexist but the way to do it is to not cut in front or between traffic. | Posted about 1 month ago Well, in Canada lol there are limits. I think "riding" to work is a great idea. Saves gas and is more efficient for the driver. hmmm Scooting, maybe in Toronto, but in the rural areas NO, too dangerous. hmmm benefits: motor cycle babe magnet free wind blowing in your face you can fit into tight spaces for parking you can save on gas So long as you don't have loud pipes on the motorcycle your helping with noise in the environment
hmmm benefits: scooter speed may be an issue, but all same benefits of motorcycle EXCLUDING BABE MAGNET
Problems: If you dress in leathers to go to work, which you should. Hmmm hot days you might confine a nice smell that is a deterent to working close with others. Rain: doesn't matter which you own, no fun when wet and then you have hydro planning. And would you really enjoy landing at work wet?
Sometimes chicks don't like to pool on a motorcycle and a scooter is definitely out of the question. In Canada, useful vehicles in the summer, in the winter they are dead wood
Seriously, If I lived and worked withing about 10 miles of home I would scoot. I think they are a great tool for traffic. I think sometimes they are selfish toys for the guys (motorcycles). The wife won't get bent out of shape over a scooter because SHE can drive it. If you like motorcycles and are not talking about a crotch rocket, then fine. The good thing about a motorcycle is that you can join a local club that do volunteer work for the community and this would open up some new networking for you. So, tell us now what the wife says and how you are going to justify the concept of buying either.

Motorcycle even better. Like many things on this forum, it depends on what you sell and who you sell to. As far as stereotyping, scooter=dork. motorcycle=cool, harley=cooler, suv=spit on the environment, volvo=I'm older and thoughtful, crossover=the new volvo, minivan=family & kids, ferrari=small penis, restored mustang=mid life crises, hummer (if you're not military)=dork |

Easy about the wifey thing, I'm single, so the babe magnet is a definite plus for the social life. The scooter is a definite plus in showing the economic side of me - not cheap but frugal and concerned. The volunteer work is also a defininte plus in the babe magnet concept as well as networking opportunities. The gals I'm most interested in meeting are those who are concerned about their community. I've seen quite a few of the local riders active in talking with car drivers while waiting at stop lights. Sure I'm heading into the winter season on this but even so with Utah there are very few non-riding days and nearly everything is accessable via mastransit. The transit up grades to my region is tremendous since the early 1990's. |

Here it rains daily during the summer months making it almost impossible to drive and stay dry. In Key West it is the only easy way to travel the city. The time is now to grow and learn as much as possible. Take action and responsibility for your actions

| Posted about 1 month ago It's weird...I'm scared of motorcycles...yet I would like to get a Scooter...one like PEE WEE herman. There are some cool scooters out there...I saw this one...red with white wall tires...scooters are pretty cheap and good on gas. I guess they can go up to around 65mph. I wanted one just for the fun of it... to ride around town and on back roads. I probably wouldn't use a scooter for work transportation.. |
