Posted about 1 month ago I worked for a company for 19 years. They sold to an Investment firm. Somehow they got rid of all the people who were making a good salary. For me it was harassment but not sexually. My district manager would put me down at every chance she got. She belittled me infront of my staff and sometimes even customers. She tormented me weekly (20 months) until I couldn't take it anymore. I gave my two weeks notice. That was june 2009. I have been in retail management since 1989 and now I can't find a full time job. I fear I will lose my house and everything I worked for. I have now taken two part-time jobs but still can't pay the bills. Min. wage was never meant to live on. I filed for unemployment but was denied because I left my job. No one is interested in why I had to leave. I guess it doesn't matter unless it happens to you. Why don't employees have any rights? If they had just said that they needed to cut my salary I would have at least stayed until I had another job. Lesson - Senority counts for nothing! A job well done can be done cheeper by someone else! Pdjane |

| Posted about 1 month ago after working 19 years and your company sold to an investment firm and that didn't give you a heads up to change coming? did you report any of this torment? file a complaint or sue the company? did you at least voice your compalint with your dm and tell her how her treatment was coming across to you..? and if you did put up with it for 20 months, why, oh why would you pick the worst time to draw a line in the sand?
sounds like you were counting on unemployment... maybe 40 or 50 months of ue to help you find your way?? Didn't you even check with the ue office before or, during the 2 weeks notice you gave to find out the elegability requirements? if... you did none of these things, than it is apparent you had no "value" for your job or your security, and an employer might be lead to believe you have none for the company either...maybe you were considered dead wood that needed to be cut... maybe if you had "put up with it" a few more months or weeks, they would have cut your job and the ue benefits would kick in... If you had worked for me and for whatever reason, i let you go, and i had any doubts as to the wisdom of my decision, Your lack of preperation and planning and concern would have confirmed my decision.
a job well done "can" be done cheaper by someone else and aparently, better than what your company thought you could do it for. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Mr. Goldsmith, My supervisors had been informed. They were all new to the company . They didn't know me from Eve. All they knew of me were the awards on the wall at home office. They also knew I made more money than they were willing pay. My DM also knew I made more than she did. And I was prepared to spend a few months out of work if I had to . I also had my resume out and had a few promising interviews before I gave notice. I only posted this information to reveal myself to anyone with simular issues with investment firms. I did seek council on the matter (Hostile work enviroment) and it was discussed at great length before I decided not to pursue the issue further. Sounds like you were in a bad mood yesterday. I'm glad you weren't my boss cause you sound very arrogant and a little above yourself. Maybe you should re-read your statement and take a moment to realize how you sound. Don't assume I didn't follow all the appropriate channels when it came to this situation, I did , but to sue a company for being ignorant isn't my style. People who sue for this that and the other thing are just looking for monetary gains and revenge not for fairness. I choose to be fair not ignorant. Hey! If I had worked for you and you really were the smart guy , you would have never let me go. I happened to be their biggest producer. Awards and all. Pdjane

| Posted 10 days ago Pandora Shut up and sell something. Everyone has issues. So if you are looking for someone that has been in similar situations, WE ALL HAVE! Sell a car, boat, cell phone, or shoes. It doesn't matter. You can always find a sales job if you are good. And it sounds like you are good. If you are willing to take U.E. then be willing to scrape up all of those trophies and plaques and throw them in the trash. Unless you are a good cook. Then you can put them in a big pot, season them up, and feed the family with them. They mean nothing now, and they lost their validity whenever the new guys came in. Besides, they have a big pot of plaques of their own. They don't care. Get your mind back right. We perform better in situations that make most people fold. Don't fold. |

| Posted 9 days ago Geez you guys are tough on pandora. I'm not saying you're wrong, she needs to get up and move forward and restore confidence in herself. It's amazing to me in a way that she managed to stay in the same company in sales for so many years. There was a time when people worked for the same company until retirement. I'd guess that those days were pretty much over in the '80s. I can't think of one sales person (I'm in NY Metro area) that has always had the same job with the same company. They've quit for better ops or have been victims of reorgs, downsizing, bancruptcies and buyouts. I've had job changes for all of the above. It sucks, the timing is never good when it's not by your choice. (although you were in a tough situation, it was your choice). Some of the forced job changes led to better companies and commissions too. It's unfortunate for Pandora that she was so sheltered and probably loyal to one employer for so many years. Those days are long gone in the northeast. However you talk about 20 months of harassment, that's an incredibly long time to not realize you should be looking for a new job. Perhaps there were pension issues or something you didn't tell us? Perhaps where you are there are simply no other jobs? No competitors you can take your success to? I didn't truly understand for a few years that sales was the profession not the company I worked for.
