I talk to alot of people everywhere I go (people I know and people I don't know).  I am always scouting for ideas.  Ideas that would give me an opportunity to move on, new career, new home (move).  When I get depressed, lol, I purge at work and home. I will attend local meetings to keep in touch with other sales professionals.

I like to refer to myself as a "tape junkie." I love the tapes & books by the masters. To me  tapes are easier than reading, although I do that as well. But with the tapes you can listen in the morning while getting dressed, in the car on the way to a call and on the way home at night as well.

I suggest to stay away from 'most' of the news programs as the networks know that negativity sells. There is absolutely no"value" of knowing how many people were killed or who got in trouble with the law that day.

Our brains are like computers: What we put in is what comes out. If we put garbage in, garbage comes out. The same applies with putting positive ideas and techniques into our minds.

We eat food each day, but just how much do we feed our brain?

One more thought:

If Attitude is 90% or more of determining our success I believe we should read or listen to 90% or more of ATTITUDE type books & tapes.

The other 10% of our self improvement time can be spent on learning "Techniques."

This is what is meant when people say that sales is a numbers game. If we spend 10 hours a week on Self Improvement, 9 should go to Attitude material and 1 hour to learning or relearning techniqes.

Go with the percentages in everything we do in sales. Play the numbers. Make it a game.

I think self improvement doesn't necessarily have to involve work.  It what you do away from work as well.  Find something to focus on to clear your mind so that Monday starts out more focused, rested and engergized!

Good point Lori. What is wonderful is that anything we do for improvement will affect both the personal and professional life.

Geez Matt, it sounds like you wasted 16 years, seeking answers that were already all around you and within you.

When I read your posts, including your life coach aspirations, I can't help thinking that 16 years ago you may have experienced a trauma or severe stress of some kind. So many "born againers" I've known, had seriously troubled lives prior to their "AWAKENING". Drugs, failed marriages, alcoholism, death of a loved one and other choices, experiences or failures that they were unable to cope with any other way. Once "awakened" they want to convert as many as they can. Their false assumption in this however is that everyone needs what they have "Discovered". (born again in my context is not just religion)

Now that you have found the "WAY", you argue with false analogies and four rules you suggest we might follow based on your extensive studies.

Matt sez "No one person can escape the thoughts our mind gives us.  The only thing we can do is make sure more positive is exposed to the mind then negative."  It's what you do and how you cope with and interpret these "exposures" that counts. You speak of the mind as some sort of uncontrollable / separate entity as if "possessed". Does this relieve a person of guilty feelings? (I didn't do it, that dopey uncontrollable mind is acting up again)

Matt sez "For example a person can be sitting in a room by themselves on a beautiful day, and out of the blue for no reason the mind starts thinking of something depressing.  This is due to our mind not having the knowledge of why not to think of that depressing moment.  Ex. Would a baby crawl off a building or touch a flame if we did not teach the baby that it will hurt?"  once again, You speak of the mind as some sort of uncontrollable / separate entity as if "possessed". Your answer to everything seems to be to put BLINDERS on. Why not try to actually experience things, the good, the bad and the ugly. Once that baby experienced the flame, it would avoid it the next time whether we taught it or not.

Matt Sez "A positive will never exist in a negative" again you are wrong Matt. We are continuously exposed to positive, negative and everything in between. It's how you interpret and use these experiences. A negative, that you learn from can certainly enhance and strengthen a person in a most positive way.

Matt sez "I can go on forever; I hope this gives you an idea of how I hope to target our society" This comment sort of speaks for itself. Do you really wish to "TARGET" our society? Is this your mission?

Why does the master put blinders on his horse? So there will be no distractions and the horse will do exactly as the master bids.

I have been giving Matt,s thread time to sink in with me . I am disappointed that he removed the post.I wish it was still here.

Yeah he did answer. Wasn't it a matter of perception. I get it that ob you are not a rah rah type personality. However many  require that sort of thing. Shortly after people attend a motivating rally they really pick up the slack ever wonder why that is?Take a peak at how successful motivational speakers are today.Take a look around any sales sites and you find sales coaches and traIners coming out of the wood work. Motivation comes in many forms. Each will speak that it needs to come from within.A will to win, attitude a guide to drawing the "it factor" from inside.

What I liked about Matt's post and you alluded to this,it is in the every day life of each person. Some realize they can draw it out, the vast majority have no idea how to draw it out and put it to work for them. Some forget that it is right in front of them to grab and grasp and to make it useful to them.

I understand the fragmented speech and writing. The ideas flow through the mind faster than what can be typed and some of the sentences run and soem of the ideas are left out. Some threads we just need to think outside the box and try to understand the real meaning. I know sometimes I do exactly what has been done with this thread ,start writing a reply that seems condeming without understanding the real meaning. I did that with one of Jim's thread before I started understanding what Jim's purpose was and is before I knew him.

I understand what Matt wants to do and why he wants to do this. I understand having a vision,I understand about the excitment the vision brings with it and the passion.I also understand that  there are quite a few people who do not want to rread a two thousand word thread. It is difficult to bring a  lot of ideas into a thread with the ability to explain each and every idea compeltely.

Have you ever been around a person that is mixed up in their thought process? Where they do not see things clearly? That is where the ananlogies of Matts thread headed.A person who is in control of coruse would realize those things. However a depressed person both mentally and physically  will not. They reach a point where they do not think straight. Not everything is black and white there is a ton of grey area. The in between area where people are at wits end and need guidance.

Would a person that is not thinking straight or those who need help be able to seperate the negative from the positive? You and I  thinking normally would say that there are negatives to water and fire. Fire to keep you warm or fire to destroy a home. Water to quench a thirst how about too much water to flood a home. When the lines become blurred help is needed.

First of all, I haven't read Matt's posts, but the question wasn't about who's WRONG and who's RIGHT.  The question was "What are some of YOUR ways to improve who YOU are and what YOU do?"  Peace up, Matt.

Rich,

To answer your  question, I personally think taking mentorship is one of the best ways to advance and improve the fastest.  Successful people do what successful people do. That also includes BEING a mentor.   I also understand what Matt was trying to say about pumping your brain full of positive rather than negative;  fuel rather than sludge.

Have you ever seen a billionaire who's best friend was a bum? Remember the "birds of a feather" cliche.  Hang out with the people you want to be like.  This has worked for ME.
