Posted 2 months ago How does a person know when they are going into an interview if the commission is appropriate to their years of experience? How do they know they are not being cheated and when is the appropriate time to ask for an increase, or do you just hope to get one? I don't know the answer to the question and I am sure that it will depend on the industry. Any thoughts? Educate me please. |

| Posted 2 months ago Lori during the itnerview process compensation is discussed. and agreed upon by both parties. Asking for more.I guess some hope thye receive a raise. I have seen so many ask for a raise without knowing why they should have a raise. The reason I have done a great job for you and rely on memory. With sales we are constantly requestiong those to be prepared.When asking for a raise you must be prepared to prove why you deserve the raise.Using specifics reasons why the raise is imperative.Be compelling and convince management The time is now to grow and learn as much as possible. | Posted 2 months ago Negotiation is the key. In my own industry, I kinda sorta know what's customary. If I was going into a new field, I would evaluate it based upon my needs. Needs being not just money, but all the other factors as well, commuting time, company culture, product, benefits, hours etc etc etc. Sales jobs are not like hourly wage jobs so you can't truly be cheated, altho you might feel cheated if you learned that others negotiated better comp than you. Sometimes companies advertise a range of salaries based upon experience, if this is the case you have a baseline to discuss from when salary negotiations begin. experienced? shoot for the top of the range. Interviewers typically have the magic number of what you would make "at plan" ask this if they don't volunteer it. How many reps attain or exceed plan might be asked also. Talk to someone that is already doing the job.
If it doesn't meet needs however, it doesn't matter other than something to do while you continue looking. |

| Posted 2 months ago If it's a commision position you should find out what the top guy is making and what the average people make. Ask for documentation. If they won't supply it , RUN! In commision sales you give yourself a raise by making more commision, or more calls. Or get better at the calls you are on. |
