Posted 2 months ago As a long time sales professional, I always find it entertaining when I become the prospect of another salesperson. I can be open, manipulative, slightly hostile, calm, affable, sympathetic etc. Almost always however, I find myself internally critiquing their techniques and performance. In general, I feel I am a bit harder to sell to. If I'm impressed by the reps effort and professionalism, I'm more likely to buy.............. and then discuss sales with them. Recently such a pro knocked on my door (yes door to door still exists apparently), and convinced me to change from one cable/internet service to another. I hadn't been thinking about this but he presented the case extremely well, answered all my questions priced it on a wireless handheld, then placed the order, gave me the order number & install date, and confirmed the pricing on the same device. Very impressive & efficient. He was still in college, yet he impressed the tech sales vet. A car salesman and I reached an impasse on pricing and other issues. I told him what I wanted to pay (I did my homework). He sez I'll have to speak to the manager on this. He left to go in the back and there on his desk was his telephone with the microphone button lit, so they could hear the private conversation of my wife and I. Of course knowing they were listening the conversation was about the better deal we could get at a competitor. Altho they met the price, I left and bought elsewhere. I later got a call from the sales manager threatening to fire the rep for insulting me, this was untrue of course and was another sleaze attempt by this dealer to make me feel sorry or guilty for the rep and buy to save his job. That dealer will never see me again. How about you? Do you feel it is easier or more difficult to sell to you because of your sales experience? |

| Posted 2 months ago oh my, I am so hard to sell anything to. I make my purchases on the value of the information I get from the sales person or outside sourcing before I will even enquire about a product or service. If the sales pitch sucks or is pushy or overbearing or uses fear as a motive for the sale, I walk. Door knockers, hmmm, "Sir, can you not see that I have this "NO Solicitation" sign in my screen door for a reason? Rep, says, "But I am not selling anything!", me "Your not, then why are you here?", rep " I wanted to tell you about a new service our cable company is offering". me, "hmm, I guess you are selling a service?", rep, "Oh, yah, I guess". me, "you know, give me the speel and I will listen, but at this time I am not looking at changing". rep "K, speee lllllll". me, "Thank you, can I have your card have a good day". lol sometimes those puppy eyes need some practice I figure. I am respectful of fellow salespeople, but it's frustrating when you feel taken advantage of like you car dealership story. |

| Posted 2 months ago I misunderstood the question at first. I am a tough one to sell. But I am also very impulsive at times... I might wake up one day and say to myself I want a new car and go out and buy one that day...then the salesperson is just lucky I walked in the door. But if someone approaches me to sell me something...I'm bad..I even look at their technique and everything, I make it tough. I'm a hard sell in that case. But of course like Ro says..if I hear something good...I will definently store it in my brain notepad and use it for another time when useful. |

| Posted 2 months ago Yah Win, I quess you said it better than me. lol And Ro, I steal ideas too. I will often tell the sales person that he or she had a good pitch too and they I hope have always looked like they feel appreciated. |

| Posted 2 months ago I cannot be sold on stuff I do not want. I am the one who hangs up on the phone telemarketer. I am the one who shuts the door on the d2d person. When I decide I need stuff I go in search of that product. If I get a great sales process thrown at me I will buy mostly due to the impressive process. Lousy means a no sale for them and off to another store. The time is now to grow and learn as much as possible. Take action and responsibility for your actions
