Are your phones not ringing ? What are you planning on doing to get those phones to start ringing?

Research, pull files with cobwebs, network, make lists of prospectives and call.  If all else fails.  Strip and stand on street corner wearing nothing but our company phone number painted on my backside. lol

No, the phones aren't ringing and customers aren't calling back very often.  So, I go to see them....can't blow me off that way!  Phone calls and emails aren't as productive as they used to be.  Face to face selling seems to be working better than any other way right now.  After they've seen me a few times, my calls don't get rejected anymore.  I just go out sometimes to "visit" with them and let them talk and the sale just happens wtihout having to push the product.

Phones not ringing?  I just got home an hour ago. I am so busy selling, it comes in the warehouse, and it ships out. I not only sell it, I have to find truckers to ship it out. That is what I get for working for a mom and pop shop!

Now that sound as if you are busy, you get bushed, but you enjoy your buiness. It is your own business,by the sound of it?

When I was working, the phones not ringing was a blessing, as often  was on my own in the office, and couldn't make outbound calls, and that was my job.It was a pest if I had to ring somone back at a specific time but couldn't as I was taking "Ad response" calls for a collegue, hey ho!

Keep busy, and enjoy what you do. If the phones stop ringing, get on the 'phone and speak to someone you know you can help, who will want to hear from you.

Focus on solving someone's problem, you will get your reward.

Quite often b2c organizations do not pick up the phone and cold call  what would you suggest for them? These comapnies would be retail stores, hardware stores, plumbing, electrical, and. Appliance company's hvac company's. Keep in mind the smal business mom and pop shops do not do this.

I would think they need to saturate the market area with advertising. Both print and media.Start a heavy networking through BNI,community networking efforts and get in front of the people. Partner with companies that have the same client base.

Auto mechanics, trades, hardware, home centers, real estate companies etc.

Well for me, I'm happier if the customer or prospect contact me by e-mail. that workedd just fine until we had a good customer tell me what he had to go through to get my phone # a couple years ago. So I put my number on the web site and ask them to e-mail for a phone appointment. Some do but most just call anytime it's convenient for them.!

Stuart, not my business, but I work for the  owner.

Rich, I have a list of customers that the owner did business with when he first started a few years ago. Some he still does business with, others I called to find out why they only made one transaction with the business. Out of the 100 plus customers, the response was no one called to follow up, so the company was put on the back burner or as they said last resort. So I took the inititive and have been making the  follow up calls. Needless to say, the phones are ringing off the hook.

as you say "I would think they need to saturate the market area with advertising. Both print and media.Start a heavy networking through BNI,community networking efforts and get in front of the people. Partner with companies that have the same client base."

Cold calling is not for everyone it's true and  when i say "ring their phones"  it isn't just cold calling. Assuming you have done some marketing, special offers and so on, a slow period might be a good time to call on your customer base and "see how they're doing" and learn about current or futurre needs or get referrals

Question concerning print media: How effective is print media ie newspapers. Enrollment is way down for the majority of newspapers and quite a few are thinking of cloing their doors in favor of the internet.

We are hitting the radio hard and asking for more referrals. BNI is an awesom group.

I found the discusion posted very interesting especially since I am not in Marketing, Promotions, or Advertising at this present time. I am a High School teacher who graduated college, got a teaching job at a school, and 22 years later I am looking for somthing new. How do I sell myself since my resume looks "small" if you know what I mean.  Hell, if I can successfully teach and control m/f teenagers then I can do ANY job :).

Any ideas you all have I would love to hear.

Maybe you could package yourself as a consultant who knows what teachers want. The up-start edu companies would be your prime target. Title your email How to sell to teachers.....

I like that sell. Also if you can manage teens you can probably become a corporate trainer
