 Has anyone  made earth boxes? Suzy wanted me to make some earth boxes for her birthday. I was dreading the honeydo list for this. I am thinking that the time to make them would outweight the dolllars to make them. Wow I was wrong. They are simple to make and cheap . To purchase them yhe cost is close to one hundred dollars. The initial setup to make them  the cost is to twenty dollars plus the boxes. In ths case they were storage bins from walmart at a cost of $3.99 each.

  The material list;

1/4 inch drill bit

21/4 inch hole saw

Drill

jig saw

 jig saw blade

 These items can be used over and over depending on how many earth boxes are made.

 The main items

storage bin

and a pool skimmer basket from home depot

two- 15 inch pieces of 1 1/2 pvc inch pipe

total cost for those two items  for two earth boxes twenty dollars

 Wife is happy and that means I am extremely happy. Let the fun begin

Yep directions AND pictures. You do not have to read the instructions. It took less than 20 minutes to do two of them

Earth boxes is a home made small garden or flower container.  It was designed for those living in small places to grow small garden  plants.Typically can hold up to four or six plants depending on how large of a container. Google earth boxes and see for yourself. It is easier to take care of than a full blown garden.

I thought that was a planter box? Are these on the ground elevating the plants? or window boxes or both?

There is a difference Jack between a planter box and an earth box. Usually a planter box is small and sits in a window area. You can see the difference if you do a search.

 The DIY use the clothes or storage bins that are 24 inches high and roughly 30 inches wide to amke a larger box. Thye are calling it earth boxes as it is a green way to grow garden veggies in an apartment setting that has grown to residential homes where they do not want a full blown garden. Easier to maintain and control the enviroment free of weeds and rabbits

and it is easy. You take the pool skimmer basket and treace a line from the bottom of the container to the top of the skimmer and cut the bottom out. You then drill many  1/4 inch holes for drainage and one large hole slightly smaller then the top of the skimmer basket. Drill 1 and 1/2 inch hole for  the pvc pipe in a corner. set the skimmer basket in  a new uncut  container and then slip the cut one  into the full container . Using the skimmer as a brace. Fill the skimmer basket and container with soil. The skimmer basket  is full of top soil acting like a wick. Plant your plants and let nature do its thing.
