I think we are all in this together, though the US have different issues, however I would be pleased to hear your views, not those of the media.

Welcome Stuart. Great question. I sure think there has been way too much spending and government involvement the last 20 years or so... I say cut back on everything government. Answer this question: What has the federal government actually succeeded at other than war?

Jack, The main issues are exactly the same. As I'm seeking a new appointment and a Recruiter by background I'm pretty usefull at seeking out new opprtunities and ways to "Self Help".What amazes me is the increadible number of vacancies advertised by both central and local government.I'm afraid I can't comment much on your own Federal issues, however,Mr Obama, seems to be more motivated and believable than the last encumbant of the Whitehouse.Time wil tell, the clock is ticking, but support him if you belive in his policies.

Too many people in the UK are appathetic, they get what they deserve. As to the War,our guys are brave, poorly equiped, and there arn't enough of them.

The US has suffered, and still are suffering high numbers of casualties, as your commitment is proportionatly far greater, the communities where our forces are based, such as where I live, recognise and sympathise with your grief.

Best wishes

Stuart

Way to much spending especially on fixing the problem now and no plans for the future. The now seems like it may take years to finally arrive with the government involved. Once the government becomes involve they never release what they have put their hands into and keep taking.

They have started investing with infrastructure and the jobs are going to people outside of our state.Still they have done zippo for the small business owner and they are the life blood of our economy.

Hi Rich thank ou once aga for your reply.

I want tocome back to you when I've done my research, I can sympathise if jobs are going outside your State. Here they are going to Immigrants, from former Eastern Bloc countries and the Government is encouraging this as its good for meeting EU directives. Seventy five% of policy implimentation comes from Brussels, we no longer ultimatley govern our own country!

Happy Fourth of July to you and your Family

Oh yeah one more thing. they will not lower taxes they must raise them to pay for the programs that people voted for in the last election. Lower spending not a chance.

Rich, sounds as if the Senate will be getting uneasy by now,Mr Oama's charisma is on borrowed time, however he did inherit a dog's breakfast of an economy.

We are due for a change here,Brown has been cooking the books for 11 years, now he's about to drop the whole sorry mess at the doorstep of Blair. Boy Cameron, needs to get his story right and clarify it before the next election or we wil end up with a coalition of minority parties that will have no fiscal experience what soever.

Enjoy your day Rich

Ron do you think that they are out of touch due to the fact that  the people voted for thier resolutions while campaining? They misrepresented that people voted for them due to wanting  pure change and not  what they were standing for or wanting to accomplish? I make this statement  after hearing Obama state at least half a dozen times, I won the election, they lost when others have tried to debate him on his policies.

rich - it seems most of them have their own agenda.......and they are passing legislation not understanding/knowing what is in it......and yes the "I won" statement is getting old......its like they campaign on certain policies, but then forget their contituents afterward......

Seems to have stirred up a hornets nest here guys!

We have the same thing here, the Commons and the Lords, never really understand or LISTEN to each other. The current administation, to you use your language, have over the last eleven years, sewn a nest of lazy, greedy, incompetant vipers in the House of Lords, nobody is capable of making a decent decision, that will produce a positive effect.

The problem we have here is, Politics is such a lousy, sleezy occupation, the people who COULD make a difference, wouldn't go near it with a barge pole.

The problem with term limits when you do get  a great representive they are limited and become a lame duck that no one will support in the senate or congress. In one way they are wonderful in another aspect thye are horrible to get anything accomplished.

but that could change if we did have term limits.  Right now it wouldn't because you have the lifers (with the connections) thwarting the newbies.  If everyone was on equal footing, that could change (not to mention be in line with what our Founding Fathers had in mind: real citizens giving up a small amount of time in service to their country.)

Given the growing sentiment in the US, I think that candidates could run a successful campaign in 2010 and 2012 by running on an "outsider with term limit" platform.

My friend the people didn't vote for any of these programs. The people voted a popularity contest against a weak administration. The Pols are outacontrol.

They voted for change just for change sake and that change comes with a price and that price is their agenda. At the end of the day they voted for policies in the politicans mind.

Yes, at the end of the day by voting for whom they did, they did vote for the policies.  I don't think the people who voted for him actually thought about, nor understood, what change they were really voting for.  They listened to the surface spin and didn't delve any deeper to understand what that meant.  That's starting to be a rude wake-up call for some; I would say good lesson but unfortunately ALL of us are going to have to pay the piper.

It is too bad that they do not remember those words and what those words mean.

I am not in favor of term limits. I worked for a congressman named Ralph Regula in Start Counbty who was tremendous for the community. He fought for the individuals and their rights. Term limits would have stopped his efforts. It is up to the people to rid the government of those who use their power to influence negatively and no longer help thier community.

Hi Rich, I've been quietly watching and reading the comments flying about over the issues raised over the last few days, I' still trying to get my head around the differences between our polotical systems.Term limits should be applied to our Members of Parlaiment, that way it would bring fresh blood into the politics at local level, encouraging those with aspirations to show their hand.

I certinly applaud your coments on the example shown for your congressman.

On another note you may have read about our MP's expenses row in the campaign led by the Daily Telegraph, do you guys know how your congressman's expenses are authorised, or indeed are they  ever made public knowledge?

The same isues apply in the UK.Apathy the biggest political enemy,is second only to those who have the right to vote and squander it.

Is that due to lack of education,I dont know but society here that used to have standards, good manners, caring for your fellow man and community seems to be in termnal decline.Politics seem to be in decline in general public interest, partly I guess due to "Sleeze".

While term limits would potentially cut short the good deeds done by some, it would also eliminate the power of the lobbyists and cronyism rampant in our current system.  (I actually have a tremendous Congresswoman in my area.)  I for one would much rather have good people serving a short amount of time than mediocre or corrupt ones longer terms.  (I'm also in favor of having ALL presidential candidates (not just the Dem and Rep) participate in the debates and limiting them to a very small, equal $ amount for paid advertising/marketing; that would help limit the paybacks/earmarks that bloat the system).
