"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more"

This is from a letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams.  The 2nd is mentioned as the resoution that became the Decaration of Independence was drafted that day and signed on 7/4/1776.

The 4th is one of my favorite holidays.  What is it without Q and watermelon and fireworks??  Only the intro to my favorite holiday July 5th.  Everyone celebrate!!

Happy 4Th everyone. My family moved down last weekend to Orlando with me along with my dogs. My father and niece are here for a couple of weeks. We are cooking out and having a few cocktails with the neighbors. We are planning on seeing some fireworks tomorrow at Avolon park.

The surprise was ten bucks a person and a ribbon to wear on your wrist. I did not think it was a big deal.

Yep deck finished thursday. Had a great time spent most of the day in the pool drinking some peach drinks. Suzy always has a  different drink special theme for every party it was tasty.

Ron there was a smaller crowd at the party also. The past three years it was wall to wall people walking shoulder to shoulder. I know in our beighborhood there were 6 different parties going at the same time with people mingling between them. Some really drunk people wearing seatbelts walking! LOL

Krunal--  Thank you!!!!!!!!!!  That is very nice.  When does your mother country have a celebration and what kind??????????????

My 4th was spent at a "picnic"  on the balcony at Century 2 put on by  The Music Theater of Wichita, then watching the Fireworks over the River from said balcony.  It was very nice. Then staying up til 2am shooting off fireworks with my kids.

Sounds like a nice time was had in Kansas. Our fireworks were nice. But we have to be alittle careful with lighting fireworks off. You can get a ticket for lighting off fireworks.

Thank you for your reflection on our country in wishing the best for the 4th.

History:

7/2/1776 the declaration of independence was first signed by John adams. (the others signed over the next couple months)

7/4/1776 was the first day that it was read to the public. The people were excited and fired their muskets and shouted for joy.

This established the 4th of July as the day recognized for celebrations.

(I heard this on the radio during last week)

james1g,  There are certain fireworks we can not set off in the city limits ie:  bottle rockets, roman candles.  but others which have less of a flight path are ok.

Ya..eNext month 15th August will be independent day for india. There will be lots of fireworks...

It is celebrated with flag hoisting ceremonies and cultural programs in the state capitals. The Prime Minister's speech at the Red Fort in Delhi is the major highlight.

In almost all the schools and colleges around the country, no academic work in done on this day, but all the students and staff members are present on this day and there is a sort of gathering of the entire school/college within their respective premises and the flag hoisting ceremony takes place,(usually in the presence of the principal)and singing of the National Anthem. After this there are various cultural activities held in the school / college and the celebration continues till late evening.

Independence Day is an occasion to rejoice in our freedom and to pay collective homage to all those people who sacrificed their lives to the cause. But it is more than that. It also marks the coming together of more than 400 princely states into one nation - India. This was probably our biggest diplomatic success.

Krunal~~~~~~~~~  That sounds really nice.  The students and staff  in India  gather at the  schools and celebrate with festivities and flag ceremonies . That is interesting and really cool..    The coming together of 400 princely states. to make One Nation.....WOW

Thanks for sharing this history.  I enjoyed learning it very much.
