Retail Sales Gain Sharply in Week
UPI
U.S. retail sales rose sharply in the week ending June 27 compared to the previous week, the International Council of Shopping Centers-USB reported.
Sales were up 1.6 percent from the previous week and up 0.6 percent compared to the same week a year ago, the report said.
The weekly gain was the strongest one-week improvement since Jan. 31, ICSC said.
ICSC said better weather helped. The week was drier and warmer than the same week a year ago, Weather Trends International said.
Falling gasoline prices may have helped, as well. The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline, at $2.642 a gallon Monday, was 4.9 cents lower than the previous week and 35.5 percent lower than the same week a year ago.
