Top 25 Cities for Your Career
Tania Khadder, Anna Hennings, Adam Starr, Alice Handley
Now more than ever, it’s important to get the best bang for your buck. And there’s no question about it — when it comes to value, not every U.S. city is created equally.
The number of Americans moving has dropped to its lowest levels since 1962, but now might be the time to consider it. Why chase a great salary if your rent swallows most of it, unemployment is skyrocketing and you spend two hours a day just to get to and from work?
So, which cities offer the most overall value in 2009?
SalesHQ has come up with the top 25 — and some may surprise you! After examining various city lists, weighing the rankings and taking note of our personal opinions, we’ve produced a list of cities that’s sure to offer something for everyone.
Our Criteria
We looked at cities' growth rates, average salaries and costs of living.
We factored in average commute time — which, according to experts, has a colossal impact on your overall happiness.
We looked not only at unemployment figures, but also at the rate that unemployment has actually increased since February 2008.
Thinking of relocating for better job prospects? Need to compare two top contenders? Just curious to see where your city ranks? We’ve got you covered.
Start Here! #25: San Diego >>

It's nice to know that your city gets some recognition but,,, it really has a lackluster economy and sales jobs are scarce if not non-existent. Where they are getting this data is beyond me. If you are not in high-tech, bio-medical tech or engineering forget it. But portland is beautiful and one of the nicest climates in the world.

I also live in San Antonio and agree with cdmarx...if this job market is #2 on the list for sales jobs, I am willing to change professions.

I live in San Antonio and the job market for Sales jobs is not that great. Often San Antonio is handled by Reps out of Houston or Austin.

The current unemployment rate here is 9.1 compared to 5.3 July 2008. The actual rate is now pegged at 9.6. This information combines with our states largest employer , Boeing accepting offers from South Carolina for relocation is an additonal blast to our recovery.

How about this concept....it doesn't matter where you live if you have the right opportunity that will be profitable ANYWHERE on the planet. That is true freedom!

The choice of cities is kind of odd.
