Five Ways to Increase Your Hireability EQ

Being assertive helps you move the job opportunity forward without offending or frustrating the interviewer. Think of assertiveness as being located halfway between passivity and aggressiveness.
QUIZ: How Assertive Are You? |
For example, suppose you are trying to close on a job offer, but the interviewer is delaying the final decision. You can respond in one of three ways:
Passive: “Could you give me a call when you’ve made a decision?”
Aggressive: “If you don’t hire me right now, I’ll go work for your competitor.”
Assertive: “Could you give me a specific time and date when you’ll make your final decision?”
The first response is almost guaranteed to fail, while the second response, even if immediately successful, creates resentment. The last approach sets up specific conditions for the job offer without forcing the pace. It also tells the interviewer something about what you would be like as an employee. They do not want to hire a push-over at the whim of others and they do not want to hire someone who will cause friction by being to too bossy.

you can pretty much figure out the type of employer they are if they still don't deliver on the "specific time and date" of the final decision. if they are delaying delaying delaying, for almost any reason, you can likely move that employer down on the prospective list just based on a lack of accountability.
